on the edge of something breakin'

♪♫ I Was Never There - The Weeknd

I finally moved into my house! The actual moving day went smoothly. Weather was decent, people showed to help, we got it done faster than expected, and nothing bad happened. However, since then, its been really rough. We spent a week without appliances (fridge, stove, washer, dryer, & dishwasher), because they couldn't deliver them immediately. We had men coming and going to do final touches on the inside of the house. We found out that we can't get internet, cable, or a landline phone here because its too new. We also didn't have our address officially recognized by Canada Post, so getting mail was difficult. Plus we kept having to buy things we didn't think of. We also have not finished unpacking!

Things have gotten much better though. We have all our appliances now. Everything is done on the inside of the house. We ended up getting Starlink (Elon Musk's satellite internet) since we could get any local internet. Canada Post just recently recognized our address, so we can get our mail. I am still not done unpacking. Its been very difficult between school and work to find the time. I still have to paint my bedroom walls and put up my posters/wall decor too. The last and final things to do will be to buy a desk and chair from Ikea for my room, and shelves for my DVDs/Blu-rays/VHS tapes for the living room. Hopefully that will be done before August. Its so close to be completed!

I ended up coming into some extra money that I didn't anticipate, so I purchased more stuff for my room. I got another Bob Masse poster (The Doors), a gorgeous '60s inspired poster that says "listen to vinyl", a picture of a crying '20s flapper girl (reason is that its one of my favorite art images), a remote/phone wall mount, a picture of Laura Palmer, three psychedelic art postcards, a fall sweater with a pumpkin design, a sunset lamp, two flower shaped coasters, and an orange flower pillow. Just waiting for it all to show up now! I also got a beautiful new plant; a pink African Violet, and I found a vintage kleenex box at the thrift store for $3 that matches my bedroom!

Some more exciting updates; my mom made me curtains! She has been sewing all her life, so I gave her two vintage sheets that I really love (same pattern) and she agreed to make them into curtains!

There are a few small things I still need to buy, like paint & paint supplies, a power bar to plug my electronics into, a frame for a painting, a couple more fitted sheets for my bed, tape for my posters, and a hand towel holder. For myself, I would also like to buy Cyberpunk 2077 for my PS4. Once those things are purchased, I will not be buying anything else. The money I had set aside for house-related things is almost depleted now. I am no no means broke though. I had planned to still keep some money in my savings and use some for my trip next month when I made the budget several months ago. I just don't want to go over my house-specific budget. So far though, I think I can still purchase the rest of what I need without going over the limit. Yay!

I will also be posting lots of videos and pictures once my bedroom is complete. Hopefully in a couple weeks. Maybe a bit longer depending on how long it takes for my posters/postcards/pictures to arrive. I plan on making TikToks to showcase my bedroom and collection. I by no means am interested in becoming a TikTok star, haha. I just want to share my love of retro aesthetics and maybe meet some cool folks who are into the same stuff. Once that starts up, I will post the link to my TikTok profile if anyone wants to follow! With that being said, I'm gonna go finish up some cleaning. I hope everyone is doing well!

The time is fast approaching for me to move into my house. I am also nearing the end of my school semester. I actually only have a week and a half left! Then I have about ten days off before the second summer semester. I won't get to enjoy the break much though, because I will likely be unpacking and settling into the house. So far I have most of the stuff I needed and wanted to buy. I just have a small list of things left that I plan on getting after we move in. Here is what I got so far...

1. A mid century modern inspired dresser, bought on Walmart's website.
2. A bed frame that matches the dresser, also from Walmart.
3. A vintage metal record stand that I bought off the Facebook Marketplace.
4. A desk organizer that I got from Amazon.
5. A stapler, also from Amazon.
6. A vintage wicker bookcase. Purchased from a local vintage shop.
7. A mini wicker chair to be used as a plant stand. I actually got four total in a bundle which I purchased on the Facebook Marketplace.
8. Flower power retro stickers from Ebay. I plan on putting these on my wall.
9. Yellow retro inspired lamp from Aliexpress.
10. A mushroom stool that I got at Urban Outfitters.
10. Three posters: Led Zeppelin (from Amazon), David Bowie (from Etsy), and Pink Floyd (from Etsy).
11. Five records: Born to Die (Lana Del Rey), IV (Led Zeppelin), Dark Side of the Moon (Pink Floyd), Rumours (Fleetwood Mac), and Suspiria Sountrack (Goblin). All from Amazon.
12. A spaceage retro inspired flip alarm clock from Aliexpress.

Here is what I still have yet to buy...

1. White desk with drawers from Ikea.
2. White desk chair from Ikea.
3. Storage unit to place under my desk from Ikea.
4. Two drawer organizers from Ikea.
5. Now Playing record holder to mount on my wall, from Etsy.
6. Orange flower pillow from Aliexpress.
7. Yellow paper organizer for my desk, from Amazon.
8. Ultraviolence (Lana Del Rey) on Vinyl from Ebay.
9. The Princess (Parov Stelar) on Vinyl from Amazon.
10. Other: I also need orange paint, paint supplies, sewing supplies (for the curtains and table runner my mom is making for me from vintage sheets I bought), four new pillows + pillow protectors, two under-bed storage containers, clear plastic table cloth, and curtain tie-backs.

I am so beyond excited to set everything up and have the '70s dream bedroom I always wanted! I will definitely post lots of pictures on here, and I also plan to make Tik Toks of my bedroom to showcase my collection and connect with other vintage lovers. I definitely haven't finished collecting and have more items that I will get over time, but after I purchased everything mentioned above, I will be taking a long break from buying anything until my trip at the end of August.

I have found almost everything on my thrifting/vintage wishlist so far, but I do have some items that I have not yet found (at least not for an affordable price in some cases). So here is what I'll be on the look for as I continue my thrifting journey...

1. A small orange TV from the '70s. Must be in working condition!
2. A vintage tam tam stool. They come in several different colors. I like the red, orange, and yellow ones the best!
3. A vintage umbo shelf. They also come in different sizes and colors. I like yellow the best, but orange is a close second!
4. A balloon chair. Also comes in different colors. I'd prefer one with a red interior or an orange interior.
5. Vintage or vintage inspired round knitted cushions. I want ones with orange/yellow/brown colors.
6. A vintage mushroom kettle.
7. Vintage Gurley novelty Halloween candles.
8. A '60s transparent vinyl tote bag with daisies. There are several different colors/flower designs, and I would like any of them!
9. Vintage floral luggage. Simialar to the totes, there are several different colors and flower designs. I'd be happy with any one!

I don't anticipate that I'll find most of those items for a long time. They are rare and often priced on the higher side. But that is all part of the fun, isn't it? The thrill of the chase. Not only that, but when you find it and its priced reasonably... its the best feeling. I have found so many items for cheap that were worth a lot of money, like my Merry Mushroom kitchenware items, Pyrex dishes, and Libbey glasses. I just recently bought two vintage '70s Libbey celestial wine glasses for $20 all together. On Ebay they sell for $60-$80 (shipping not included)! With that being said, some items on this list like the umbo shelf and balloon chair can often sell for thousands of dollars. Those ones will be much harder to come across and I may not achieve my goal of obtaining them. Won't stop me from trying though!

Today is my only day off this week, so I'm going to go and enjoy it. Not sure what I'm going to do, but it will involve laying in bed and watching TV with food, haha! Hope everyone is doing well!

♪♫ Trash Magic - Lana Del Rey

I intended to blog sooner, but life has been rough lately. I still have not moved into my new house. I was supposed to move in within the next couple weeks, but there is a delay and now the home won't be ready until mid June. My family and I are currently homeless as we wait, and have resorted to paying for two Airbnbs that we can stay in until June 10th. It was really expensive, but we didn't have much of a choice. I'm just hoping there is no more delays. I'm sick of not having a secure place to live. I hate that most of my belongings are in storage. It sucks to live out of a suitcase.

My mental health is not doing well because of this situation. I haven't been eating well either, so I don't feel good physically too. I'm really suffering and it feels like the ending is so far away. I just want this all to be overwith, so that I can relax in my own room and do things that I enjoy again. I miss writing, I miss playing The Last of Us, I miss watching horror movies, I miss listening to my records, I miss decorating everything just the way I like it...

The thing that makes all of this even more difficult, is that I am also working two days a week and going to school two days a week. Trying to do a good job at work and keep up with school work feels so impossible right now. I keep dreaming of the day that everything is settled and I can relax. Unfortunately there will be no break with school until next May, when I get my degree. Then I'll have that summer off before I start my next degree (although I still have to work).

I think I'm going to do a bunch of traveling next summer. I want to go to Naples, Florida (my uncle lives there & says I can stay with him), Port Hawkesbury, Cape Breton (where my dad's family lives), Saint Stephen, New Brunswick (where my best friend lives), and Old Orchard Beach & Bangor, Maine (which is not far from Saint Stephen, New Brunswick). Each place will be cheap to go to, mostly due to free accomodations. I'm thinking I'll have to save about $3000. I hope I'm able to!

I hope everyone else is doing well!

guess who is a homeowner?!

♪♫ Lost in the Fire - The Weeknd

I intended to blog much sooner than this, but everything in my life kinda just went to hell. I was evicted from where I'm living. Not because of anything I did. I'll explain; I was renting a room from my cousin along with two other relatives. My cousin got into an argument with one of the relatives and decided she wants us all to leave. Its been a lot of drama and stress. Myself and the other two relatives decided to buy a house together. Where I live, the rent is really high (costs the same for an apartment monthly that it does for a house), and its also hard to find both rentals and houses. Due to that fact, we decided that going for a house is better because at least that way we will own it and get our money back at some point. We also each had signifcant money in our savings and good credit on top of that.

So we applied for a mortgage, and we got approved for $395k! This was exciting, because its usually enough to buy a duplex or small house, but... sadly the market got really crazy. We bid on about seven homes and lost each one. The last one we actually were the highest bid, but the person they chose had cash and so they got chosen over us. It was super frustrating. Just three or four months ago, there were still many homes going for around $350k. Our real estate agent says she isn't sure why, but the market just exploded right before we began searching for a house, which is super bad luck. It was so frustrating and discouraging.

But good news! We got a house! We purchased a brand new mini home just outside of the city. Its in the country, but my drive to work is actually only ten minutes longer because I already lived on the outskirt of the city. The home itself isn't actually ready because its still in the factory, but it will be delivered mid May and then it will be hooked up to power/septic/whatever else by the end of May and we can move in! Although we haven't seen the house in person, we did go inside of a show home and it was amazing! They are built much wider now and using the same materials that regular houses are built with. For example, the house has regular drywall instead of the vinyl panels that a lot of mini/mobile homes are usually made with. The kitchen is bigger than all the regular houses we had bid on too!

Our monthly payments including mortgage, utilities, property tax, and internet is the exact same price that most three bedroom apartments are listed for in my city (and thats utilities NOT included)! We are saving money, and since mini homes are built much better now, they should retain their value, meaning we will get our money back when we sell. Maybe even more if the market is hot whenever we sell it! We haven't fully calculated how much each of us is paying because we need to see our bills first, but I estimate that I'll be paying around $650 monthly. As a student, that is pretty affordable compared to what my other options would be. If I went off on my own, I'd have to put my stuff in storage (costing $150 monthly), and rent a room in student housing (which costs $600-$1000).

Until then, however, my life will be stressful. My cousin wants us out of here by the 1st of April, so I'm going to move with my dad at the end of the week. He lives in a bachelor apartment, so its not ideal. But he got an extra mattress for him to sleep on and says I can sleep on his bed. The nice thing is that its close to my work (a five minute walk away), but I won't have privacy or feel really at home for two months. My only comfort is knowing that by the summertime, I'll be in my own home out in the country and I can have iced drinks on my deck as I listen to music with the sun shining down on me. Sounds so perfect!

I also have plans for my bedroom! This will be no surprise, but I'm going to have a '60s/'70s aesthetic. I have a list of items I'm going to buy and I have the savings all ready to make the purchases when the time comes. Here is what I'm getting...

Top row (left to right): platform bed frame, dresser (that I'll use for my TV as well), & desk for school/writing.
Bottom row (left to right): vintage gold metal record stand, yellow computer chair, & the shade of orange I'm painting my walls.

I have more things I want to buy, but will get those items over time. These are what I want to start with. In addition to those purchases, here is some of what I already have to add to the '60s/'70s aesthetic...
Top row (left to right): floral vintage bedding (this is just a portion of my collection), vintage bedsheet that my mom is going to turn into curtains for my room, & a granny square blanket.
Bottom row (left to right): vintage moon staircase shelf, my record player, & vintage mushroom magazine rack.

I have lots more, but these are the main big items for my room. My collecion of vintage kitchenware will be placed inside a china cabinet in the dining room.

I'm so excited to have a bedroom that feels like home. I haven't had that in a long time. Where I'm living now with my cousin, I was just sleeping on a couch in the basement. Most of my stuff has been in storage and I miss it!

In addition to that, my school semester is almost over... which means its a super stressful time. I have a lot of assignments and projects due soon. Plus exams in a few weeks. I don't even get the summer off, because I signed up for summer classes to speed up my degree. However, I have two weeks at the end of August before the fall semester starts, so I'm going to visit New Brunswick during that time. I can't wait! I'm going to see my best friend and get drunk like I did when I was a teenager, haha. It'll be well deserved after these few months of hell.

I hope everyone is doing well!

Its been almost a month since my last blog! So sorry it took me this long to write another one. Basically what happened is; I got the other job! So I had to pack up my stuff and move very quickly (the new job is a live-in support worker for 3 male youth). Doing that took up a lot of my free time. It was exhausting! However, it all worked out well. Even though there were some bumps... like my queen size bed not fitting in the attic, so I had to trade it with a family friend for a double bed. Luckily the double bed is super comfy! Its been a week now though and I feel mostly settled and comfortable.

During this time, I also had a mole removed from my back. I was in a lot of pain for the first 3 days afterwards, so that slowed me down a lot too. It was a bit stressful, so I ended up taking a day off work to relax and feel better. It definitely helped. I also had some meetings and a driving lesson during that time. I'm so glad that I got everything done in time! I even had my house warming present show up in the mail an hour before I began moving out! Its a portable radio/bluetooth speaker. I love it! After moving in, I did a bunch of shopping for stuff that I needed. Both food and random items.

As far as movies go, I've seen two new movies in the theater in the past month; Joker and The Lighthouse. I loved both! I'm definitely going to buy them when they come out on DVD/Blu-ray! I also bought 3 movies recently on DVD; Alice Through the Looking Glass, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. I've already seen the first 2, but I watched Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark for the first time recently. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't exactly what I imagined it would be. However, I'm used to disturbing horror movies, so it takes a lot to scare me.

To be honest, I'm not sure that I want to be a child and youth care worker anymore. Working with troubled youth is very challenging when I'm also struggling with PTSD. I'm thinking I will graduate next year, get a child and youth care job, then try to find a different job that is not so emotionally demanding. My boyfriend and I celebrated Valentines this past weekend. Due to being busy and me having a rough patch with anxiety, we weren't able to find the time. Over a week ago, when we originally planned to have Valentines day, I had a massive panic attack and took some anger out on him via text. That caused a few days of upset for both of us. I have never behaved that way towards him before, so it was a shock to him. I explained that people don't think rationally during panic attacks and that I would warn him next time, so that I could deal with it on my own and he wouldn't be impacted by it. Its not fair for him to have to deal with that.

Anyways, for the celebration we had this past weekend, the first thing we did was exchange gifts. I gave him a card that said "I love you a waffle lot" with a picture of a waffle on it and a heart shaped box of mini Reese cups. Waffles are an inside joke for us. He gave me a poem he wrote on a piece of paper that he decorated with hearts and glitter, a heart shaped box of Turtles and a used 3DS with Mario Kart 7. I was so stunned. I nearly cried. I have never gotten such amazing gifts from a boyfriend before. Especially the poem. That is my favorite gift of all! He is so amazing. I feel so lucky!

After that, I made him dinner (pasta with tomato sauce, caesar salad & garlic bread), we watched Predator 3 and played some video games. Sadly I began feeling sick that night and barely slept. I have been thinking a lot about my own apartment lately. I won't be able to move into an apartment until July or August, but I am preparing well in advance for it. I already have $3000 saved. My goal is $5000, which I will reach in June. I have a list of things I need as well. I am getting so excited! It has me thinking about my first apartment. I lived in it for two years and I was gorgeous. I really lucked out. The building was less than ten years old and in amazing condition. I lived in the "bad" part of town, but on a street that was considered to be quiet/nice compared to the others. I also lived right by the water and had an amazing view of it from my bedroom window.

I was on government assistance at the time, due to being only sixteen - eighteen years old at the time. They took only a third of my check for rent and the rest I used for food. School provided me a bus pass for school hours and my worker gave me a hole punch bus card as well. My grandmother generously paid $50 a month for my internet. I had a cheap cell phone plan that was paid for by my mother. I also did my laundry at the youth center to save money. It was one of the best times of my life. I miss it.

Now I'm thinking about how I want to decorate my next apartment. Currently I live in a furnished rooming house for college, so I have practically no furniture. The white furniture I used to have, fell apart a few years ago. It lasted a solid ten years though! I definitely need new bedroom furniture and I'm still a big fan of white... and luckily I found a gorgeous set at Walmart! I won't be buying it for a few more months, maybe longer, but I'm excited! It had good reviews, despite being cheaper furniture. I'm getting a wide dresser with a mirror, a chest and two night stands (one for when my boyfriend visits me!). I also will be keeping my current bed and bed frame (I have a queen size bed that is only a few years old & a basic metal bed frame). For the bed frame, I will be getting a white headboard to attach to it. Also, I have selected an affordable quilt set for my bed!

I have estimated that all of this will cost me around $1700. That is a generous estimate too. Likely will be closer to $1500. Then I have another $3300 to work with for the rest of my apartment. I plan to get lots of used furniture too, which will save money. I just wanted my bedroom to have all new furniture so that it can match and be pretty!

That is all for now. I will be posting updates when I purchase things for my apartment, but that process won't start until May or June. See ya next time!

♪♫ Stressed Out - Twenty One Pilots

So much has changed in seven years. The 2010 picture was taken when I was sixteen, right after I got my first apartment. I was emancipated from my parents due to abuse and homelessness. I was struggling a lot with my mental health. I also was caught up in a bad relationship. About a year later, my drinking problem began and eventually I got kicked out of that apartment for spending my rent money on alcohol. I dropped out of school the next year, then I spent the next five years drinking all the time, smoking weed, smoking cigarettes, hanging out with criminals and going from relationship to relationship. I ended up in shady places and experienced a lot of vicarious trauma due to the stories from the people I hung out with. Plus actual trauma from events that I experienced with those people. There was a lot of violence. I know someone currently in jail for murder right now. I know some others who went for attempted murder.

I got caught up in that world. It made me street smart and desensitized me to a lot of fucked up stuff. I wasn't a good person. I manipulated people. I stole from people. I was self-destructive and didn't care much about others around me. I could not regulate my emotions at all. It was the worst time in my life. I was in a black hole and couldn't figure out how to get out. Eventually, I ended up in a relationship and living with a man that I didn't really love. I felt trapped. My depression was so bad that I couldn't get out of bed most days. Then, one day I just had enough. I called my grandmother, who lived in a different province, and asked her if I could live with her. She agreed, so I began saving money and packing. A couple months later, I was with her. During the time I lived with her, I quit drinking and smoking, lost 70lbs, got my GED, did volunteer work and got accepted into college.

The college I applied to was in a different town, so I had to move. I got government funding and assistance to pay for my schooling and my living expenses (and I don't have to pay it back). Now here I am. I have passed the first year of college and the first semester of second year. I have gotten myself into my first healthy relationship. I have made some stable friends. I did it! I made it! Sometimes I forget where I came from and how far I've come. Many people don't know where I came from. My past is dark and full of trauma. I've witnessed overdoses, I know several people that have been stabbed or have stabbed other people, I have been robbed, I have been homeless many times, I have dated drug dealers and more. It was a rough life that I never thought I'd get out of. And that is exactly why I'm becoming a child and youth care worker. I will be working with youth that I have similar experiences to my own. I want them to know its possible to change their life.

When I look at the picture of me from 2010 and the one from 2017, I see a major difference. I look happier and more confident. I am a fighter and I can make it through anything after what I have been through!

I know that veganism is better for me and I need to get back to it! My health was never better than when I was vegan! That and my love for animals is my motivation. I think I will spend the summer transitioning back to being vegan!

  • I got a new phone! Its an LG K4 2017. It may look fancy, but its just a prepaid phone. I paid like $150 all together with taxes. I also bought a cute dream catcher case and a screen protector on Ebay for super cheap! My old phone was acting up and giving me trouble, so I decided that it was time for a new phone.

  • Since I am a horror movie addict, I paid approximately $50 for a one year membership to Shudder, which is like Netflix for just horror movies! It has a pretty decent selection too!

  • I had to move to a different town last month to do my first placement. It was a really awesome experience! I stayed in a bed and breakfast, which was owned by a nice British couple. I got the biggest room they had, which had a sun room attached to it and a kitchenette so that I could make my own food! It was so lovely! Also... my placement was wonderful. My last day was so sad! The children asked me to stay and I had to tell them that I couldn't. It was heartbreaking. They even gave me some handmade parting gifts!

  • I got hooked on Riverdale. I didn't expect to love it as much as I do! I typically don't watch teen shows, but this one really pulled me in!

  • Randomly spotted this snake in the parking lot of the bus station. I named him Joe. I hope he is doing well.

  • I'm still waiting on these things to arrive in the mail. I used coupons for everything, so I paid about $70 including shipping. The first four things are from an artist that I have been following for a while. I have admired her work, but I never seemed to have enough money to purchase anything from her. She recently announced that her shop will be closing because of her health and she posted a discount code, so I took the opportunity to purchase all the things that I liked from her shop. The rest of the stuff is from Chapters. I got $10 off from my rewards card and two of the items were already discounted, so it was an awesome deal! I especially like the "dream a little dream" jewelry dish. I always have that song stuck in my head!

  • Took a new selfie and I love it!

  • Today is the day!!! Twin Peaks season three!!! I am so excited!!! However... I have to wait till tomorrow to watch it because I don't have Showtime. Ahhh!!!

  • I got my grades back from last semester and not only did I pass everything, I also got really good grades! Hard work pays off!

  • When I was away for my last placement, the Brisith couple I was staying with happened to be vegetarians and they had a vegetarian potluck! It was awesome! They made this mac 'n cheese dish with faux hamburger and it was sooo good!

  • That was a lot... I am hoping to keep up with blogging so that I don't have to write giant blogs like this every time I blog. I'm going to try to write another one tomorrow after I watch the first two episodes of Twin Peaks season three! Also... I'm going to spend the rest of my day updating different areas of my blog, updating social networking sites and updating my phone. Lots to do! I am not feeling well (I think I caught a virus), so hopefully I can get it all done!
