on the edge of something breakin'

♪♫ I Was Never There - The Weeknd

I finally moved into my house! The actual moving day went smoothly. Weather was decent, people showed to help, we got it done faster than expected, and nothing bad happened. However, since then, its been really rough. We spent a week without appliances (fridge, stove, washer, dryer, & dishwasher), because they couldn't deliver them immediately. We had men coming and going to do final touches on the inside of the house. We found out that we can't get internet, cable, or a landline phone here because its too new. We also didn't have our address officially recognized by Canada Post, so getting mail was difficult. Plus we kept having to buy things we didn't think of. We also have not finished unpacking!

Things have gotten much better though. We have all our appliances now. Everything is done on the inside of the house. We ended up getting Starlink (Elon Musk's satellite internet) since we could get any local internet. Canada Post just recently recognized our address, so we can get our mail. I am still not done unpacking. Its been very difficult between school and work to find the time. I still have to paint my bedroom walls and put up my posters/wall decor too. The last and final things to do will be to buy a desk and chair from Ikea for my room, and shelves for my DVDs/Blu-rays/VHS tapes for the living room. Hopefully that will be done before August. Its so close to be completed!

I ended up coming into some extra money that I didn't anticipate, so I purchased more stuff for my room. I got another Bob Masse poster (The Doors), a gorgeous '60s inspired poster that says "listen to vinyl", a picture of a crying '20s flapper girl (reason is that its one of my favorite art images), a remote/phone wall mount, a picture of Laura Palmer, three psychedelic art postcards, a fall sweater with a pumpkin design, a sunset lamp, two flower shaped coasters, and an orange flower pillow. Just waiting for it all to show up now! I also got a beautiful new plant; a pink African Violet, and I found a vintage kleenex box at the thrift store for $3 that matches my bedroom!

Some more exciting updates; my mom made me curtains! She has been sewing all her life, so I gave her two vintage sheets that I really love (same pattern) and she agreed to make them into curtains!

There are a few small things I still need to buy, like paint & paint supplies, a power bar to plug my electronics into, a frame for a painting, a couple more fitted sheets for my bed, tape for my posters, and a hand towel holder. For myself, I would also like to buy Cyberpunk 2077 for my PS4. Once those things are purchased, I will not be buying anything else. The money I had set aside for house-related things is almost depleted now. I am no no means broke though. I had planned to still keep some money in my savings and use some for my trip next month when I made the budget several months ago. I just don't want to go over my house-specific budget. So far though, I think I can still purchase the rest of what I need without going over the limit. Yay!

I will also be posting lots of videos and pictures once my bedroom is complete. Hopefully in a couple weeks. Maybe a bit longer depending on how long it takes for my posters/postcards/pictures to arrive. I plan on making TikToks to showcase my bedroom and collection. I by no means am interested in becoming a TikTok star, haha. I just want to share my love of retro aesthetics and maybe meet some cool folks who are into the same stuff. Once that starts up, I will post the link to my TikTok profile if anyone wants to follow! With that being said, I'm gonna go finish up some cleaning. I hope everyone is doing well!

My trip is two days away! I'm so excited to get away from work and the city for five days. I am hoping to go mushroom hunting, get some professional pictures of the night sky, watch horror movies with my dad, and of course eat lots of my grandmother's home cooked food. On the way there we're stopping at two thrift stores in a small town. I've heard from multiple people that they have found amazing stuff at the thrift stores from that town. I hope I get some good stuff!

Speaking of shopping, here are some new items I bought recently...

Merry Muhsroom creamer » Bought for $3 at the thrift store. Had a tiny chip on the inside of the rim, but otherwise looked great! It was covered in dirt, but I washed it and used a magic eraser to make it look good as new!
Plant earrings » Bought for $15 from an old coworker who has her own jewelry business now. They're so cute!
Tote bag made from vintage bedsheets » Bought for $40 on Etsy from a lovely woman in Montreal. Its so gorgeous! I'm planning on using this for when I go thrifting.
Small wicker arm chair » Bought for $4 at the thrift store. I seen a girl on Instagram with the exact same chair and she used it as a plant stand, which I thought was super cute. So that is what I'm using it for too!

The heat here has been unbearable for weeks now. My house has air conditioning, but not in the attic, which is where my bedroom is. My room is a bit messy, but cleaning it is not possible in this heat. I also want to purge my stuff and get rid of a bunch of things, but I also can't do that in this heat. I feel like I can't be productive until late September. Ugh. Summer doesn't agree with me.

I've been super busy since I last blogged... I've mostly been busy with work, but also with running tons of errands, including going through a car wash for the first time (which was fun haha)! I also ended up buying a bunch of decorations for my bedroom and two new plants (I've named them Luna and Soleil). I re-arranged and decorated my bedroom to cheer myself up and it worked! Definitely loving the new look! All I have left to do is re-pot two of my plants and put together my new nightstand.

Speaking of things I bought... The Last of Us Part II arrived and I've been playing it. So far I've had a mixture of feelings about it. I'm mostly enjoying it, but part of the story has been upsetting. Hopefully it improves as the story goes on. Anyways, I also bought other things; a big order of clothes from Shein (plus a moon wall hanging decoration). I really needed new clothes and I got a bunch for only about $160. Not too bad! I hope they all fit. I measured myself and matched it up with the measurements for the sizes on each item, so I hope that was accurate.

My work has offered to pay for me to have two nights away again! This time, I decided to check out Airbnb and see what was available because I really didn't want to stay in a hotel again. I ended up finding a tiny little cottage out in the country by a lake and it was less than $200 including all taxes and fees for two nights! My work told me that my limit was $200 before taxes and fees, so it worked out perfectly! I booked it for two weeks from now and I've been making plans for what I'm going to do when I'm there. Definitely going to take advantage of sitting by the lake and enjoy the sunrise and sunset!

I have a week off from work starting on July 7th. I'm so excited! I'm planning on getting my hair cut that week, plus I'm going to dye it blue underneath myself (I've done it before so I'm confident it will turn out - plus I watch a lot of Brad Mondo videos haha). In late July, I'm going to start planning out my tattoo. I want to get a tattoo that will be inspired by the movie Mulholland Drive. I have a few ideas so far, but I need to spend more time thinking about it. I'm feeling so much better now that I'm being myself again!

I also have noticed that I've gained some weight lately. I suppose its hard not to when it comes to being quarantined. I am planning on going back to eating healthier. I bought a bunch of healthy food last night I'm planning out my meals today for the next week. Wish me luck! Thats all for now. I'm going to have dinner with my family in a few hours. ♪♫ Love Buzz - Nirvana

How has everyone's past couple weeks been? Mine were mostly bad to be honest... but these past few days have been a lot better! As you probably already know, I still have to work full time. I work in a homeless shelter and we are considered an essential service, so we cannot close. I've basically only gone from work to home since this pandemic started. I have seen none of my loved ones and have really been struggling with that. My mental health has declined a lot lately and I finally figured out what to do about it: treat myself to some self care items and do a deep spring clean/organize of my room!

I did both of those things in the past few days and I feel a ton better! I spent a lot of money ordering stuff online (I had the money to spend - it didn't hurt my bank account). I bought the following; two pairs of Vans, two pairs of Converse, a cheap pair of black slip on shoes, a pair of memory foam slippers, a big black purse, an umbrella, two surprise bags from Ardene, a massage pillow, an essential oil diffuser + essential oils, head massager, a color changing mood lamp/bluetooth speaker, a light blocking sleep mask, and three fake succulent plants for decoration.

If you are wondering why I bought so many shoes; all my old ones have been messed up from work. They all have holes in them and are filthy. I definitely needed all new shoes! Anyways, onto the next thing; deep spring cleaning/organizing my room. It was very time consuming, but so worth it! My room looks a ton better now. I would post pictures, but I am waiting for all my self care stuff to arrive first, so I can post pictures of everything all set up. My room will be the ultimate relaxation space, which is what I really need right now. I'm so excited!

I also ended up cleaning my carpet... which I didn't plan on doing. I accidentally spilled my entire smoothie on the carpet yesterday and had to go out and buy a $160 carpet cleaner. After cleaning up the smoothie stain, I tacked some other stains that were there before I moved in. Now the carpet looks almost new! I'm definitely unhappy about the cost and the effort that I put into it though...

Oh, I also had pre-ordered The Last of Us Part II, but then they announced that it has been postponed. Ugh! It was the only thing I had to look forward to! I hope this whole pandemic ends soon...

I finished my first weekend in my new position of part-time weekend overnight worker (I work 5 days/40 hours all together every other weekend from Thursday to Monday)! It was more challenging than I thought it would be, but I made it through and I definitely know I can get used to it. The challenging part was mostly to do with time restraints... I struggled to get enough sleep between shifts and have time to do self care as well. My co-worker, the full-time weekend overnight worker, told me that it takes a few weeks to adjust and figure out how to navigate the position. That definitely made me feel better. I got this!

Before my first day on Thursday, I spent the morning making pumpkin spice muffins! I took 6 for myself and brought the rest to work for my co-workers/the youth. The recipe is actually super simple; a 15oz can of pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling), a box of spice cake mix and a cup of water. Mix it all up well, grease a muffin pan with butter or oil (don't use muffin cups - they stick too much), then bake on 350°F for 20-25 minutes. Easy peasy! Its actually a weight watchers recipe, so the calorie content is low! Its only about 90-100 calories per muffin! Perfect if you're watching your diet, but want a yummy fall treat!

I also got my Teeny-Tiny Christmas Cactus in the mail on Thursday! It was a nice little surprise before I headed to work. Its smaller than what I expected (I don't know what I expected - it said teeny-tiny!), but its still super cute. I already have it on display, even though Christmas isn't for another 2 months, haha!

Yesterday was a busy day. When I got off work at 8 am, I was supposed to have a supervision meeting, but my boss forgot. We decided to reschedule, then I headed out to run some errands. I bought some more bubble envelopes, mailed out some Etsy orders, bought gift cards for Christmas, and bought a few groceries. When I got home, I slept for about 4 hours, then woke up and completed more tasks; did laundry, wrapped gifts, organized Christmas cards, did my budget, cleaned my room, cleaned out my bag, and did dishes. I ended my night by watching Friends and enjoying candy + hot chocolate.

I woke up late this morning. I ended up sleeping for 10 hours or more. I'm glad though... I get limited sleep doing so many overnight shifts, so I needed to let myself sleep and wake up without an alarm. It was wonderful! Today I'm going to watch horror movies (especially House of 1000 Corpses - my yearly tradition on Halloween Eve!), eat yummy food and relax in bed. Its my lazy self care day! However... I do have to stop by Walmart later to pick up an order (a Christmas gift for my cousin). I'm also going to try to stop by a pharmacy for a flu shot. I haven't had time to do it and I need to get it done. Anyways, Happy Halloween Eve to everyone who celebrates it!

What a week its been! And not in a good way... I've been stressed. After my last blog, I had my final driving class and there was a test at the end. I nearly failed it. I just barely passed. Even though I did pass... I still felt very disappointed in myself. I'm used to much higher marks! I think its mostly because I had to sit and listen to someone talk for 7 classes which were 3.5 hours each time. I don't have a good attention span for that. Plus I haven't taken a test in a long time either, so I was anxious. At least it was multiple choice though... I think that saved me.

I was so stressed the day after the test, that I ended up being 15 minutes late because I just couldn't pull myself together. Ugh. Good thing my work is very understanding/laid back about being late, so it wasn't an issue. However... I got some bad news at work. The position I was hoping to apply for has been filled. What happened is they posted for the full time version of the position and then decided to just hire all positions from the applicants. I can see from their point of view why they did it; overnight worker positions are hard to fill and they wanted it done quick. But... its really unfair that I never got the chance to apply. I'm a bit sour about it. However, there is another position I was considering as well, which has been posted; a live-in support worker. I have a tour of the house on Friday before I make my decision to apply (the deadline is Sunday night). I'm quite certain that I'll be applying though!

On Sunday, my boyfriend came to visit me for the night. As soon as he came in, he could tell something was off... even though I was trying to hide it. I told him about it and he cheered me up! We then went for dinner at a local pub that I've never been to before. He told me that they have the best burgers in town and he was right! They had a veggie burger that, I dare say, is the best veggie burger I have ever had! After that, we came back to my house, watched movies and cuddled. The next morning, I made him breakfast and then we went for a walk to the nearby lake before he headed home. It was a lovely visit!

I had yesterday and today off from work. I was originally intending on trying to get shifts for both days, but then I decided that I really need a break from work. No shifts came up anyways, so it worked out! Yesterday I did absolutely nothing. The only exciting thing I did was eat garlic fingers and watch horror movies. It felt so great to be lazy! Today was a more productive day. I did a couple loads of laundry, re-arranged my room a bit, cleaned a little, made a meal plan for the next week, had a bath, gave myself a facial, watched TV, had a big cup of tea and relaxed in bed! Today was also pay day, which is exciting, haha!

As for shopping in the past week... I did a fair amount. I feel like I'm always shopping! I'm probably a bit addicted, haha. Anyways, I bought this cheesy horror movie at the dollar store last week; Stage Fright. I watched it and it was... different, haha. Not necessarily bad, but it was a musical, which I didn't expect. I also ordered a mini expandable accordion file folder on Ebay. I came up with a great idea to budget my money with it; I'm going to put cash in each section for different things I need to pay for, like; rent, groceries, bus pass, etc. I'm already really good with saving money, but I'm hoping it will help me to save even more!

Oh and before I go; rest in peace Sid Haig aka Captain Spaulding from House of 1000 Corpses (one of my favorite movies of all time). He is a horror icon and will forever be remembered! My best friend Kara is more upset about his death than I am. She was heartbroken. I ended up buying her an extra Christmas gift to add to her package; a Captain Spaulding Funko Pop figure. She is gonna love it! Her own little Sid to keep forever.

That is all for now! I wish I had more to talk about!

I used to be a homeless high school dropout with a drinking problem and severe mental health issues (primarily PTSD). My life was utter hell and I never thought that I'd turn it all around. It all feels so surreal. This is my biggest accomplishment thus far! Here is a video of me receiving my diploma...

Here is my diploma...

After my graduation, I went to lunch with my grandmother, my dad, and my boyfriend. We went to one of my favorite restaurants, which I chose. I had a lentil burger, sweet potato fries, apple pie, vanilla ice cream, and a root beer. It was so yummy! Everyone gave me a gift, which was lovely! For gifts, I got $1100 in cash and the following items; a graduation mug, The Book of Revelation for Dummies, and a kit to name a star! I am saving most of the money, but I did spend a few hundred on stuff I needed; a frame for my diploma, a pair of black Vans, five new tops, a package of new socks, two new bras, and other random small things that I needed. The tops and Vans are needed for when I get a job (when I wear t-shirts & hoodies to work, people assume that I'm a youth, so I decided to get some more mature/professional looking tops to stand out as a worker, & the Vans are good for being on my feet all day, which I will have to do for every job in my field).

I also already have a burgundy one just like the first two and a rose pink one that is similar to the first two, but has a v-neck. I have one for everyday of the week & in a variety of colors!

Today has been a busy day. I did laundry, cleaned my room, went through my stuff and got rid of stuff I don't use/want, and worked on Twin Peaks inspired rings to sell in my Etsy shop. I used to sell them a couple years ago and they were my best selling item. I sold 2-3 per day! I found a bunch of the supplies needed to make them in my storage room and decided to spend $30 on the rest of the supplies needed, so that I could make some money. I'll be able to make about 50 rings in total, which will be a profit of $750. I anticipate it will only take 6-ish weeks to sell them all. Maybe two months at the most. I'm going to save all the money from them and put it into my savings for driving lessons! I will only have to sell 3 rings to begin making profit, which I'm sure won't take long. Oh, and I got a couple of the things that I ordered online in the mail today!

I'm so in love with the top & the makeup bag! They are gorgeous!

They turned out super good! I think I've gained a couple lbs from them already, haha. However, I'm giving 80% of them away. I have a large tin filled up to bring to my boyfriend's family on Christmas day. I hope they like them! I decorated most of them with icing, but I left some plain, because I know that some people don't like them with icing.

Yesterday was quite an adventure. I left home close to noon and headed to the mall. I had to pick up two orders from the book store, one of which was a gift for my dad's girlfriend. Then I went to the food court and had a vegetarian poutine for lunch. From there, I took the bus downtown. I wandered around the mall for a while. I purchased $10 worth of writing essentials from the dollar store (I got back into writing recently). And yes, sour straps are essential for writing... don't question it, haha. Anyways, after that I just walked around for a while before meeting my dad.

I met up with my dad around 4pm. We decided to go to a restaurant that was a bit outside of town, so we had to take two buses. And since it was around rush hour, it took about two hours to get there. It was brutal! It was also freezing cold outside, so that sucked too. However, the restaurant was great! Its one of my favorite restaurants ever and I haven't been there in a long time, because the location close to me has closed. Anyways, we got a private booth in the corner and spent almost two hours there. I ordered spinach dip, mozza sticks, a brownie sundae and root beer. My dad had wings, fries, chicken taquitos, chimi-cheesecake bites and root beer. We were so stuffed by the end of the meal!

Partway through the meal, he handed me my birthday/Christmas gift, plus the birthday/Christmas cards from his parents. As I was opening them, the waiter came over and asked if it was my birthday. I said yes and he insisted on bringing me a free slice of chocolate cake! I initially declined, but he said he would give it to me in a to-go box to bring home. Hard to say no to that! It was so nice! Anyways, back to the gifts; my dad gave me the entire series of Tales From The Crypt on DVD! I've wanted it for so long and I'm just thrilled that I finally have it! My grandparents gave me cash, which is always a great gift, haha. I also gave him gifts for him, his girlfriend and the cat for Christmas.

The journey home was a bit brutal. It took forever on the bus to get back and then I ended up missing my last bus by like 10 seconds! It began driving away as I exited the bus I was on. Ugh! So I thought "fuck it" and paid for a taxi home. I don't do it often, but I was cold and tired. I was so happy when I finally got home. I turned the heat up, put my comfy pajamas on, grabbed some snacks and watched TV. I also feel asleep early due to the tiring day I had.

Today, I'll mostly be cleaning. However, I'm going out for dinner with my grandmother and my uncle. I'm unsure if my little cousin is coming or not, but either way, it will be a good time! We're going to either a Chinese restaurant or a pizza place. Yay! Tomorrow will be my packing and laundry day. I leave for a two week trip on Saturday, so I got lots to do! Then on Sunday, we went out for lunch at a restaurant we both really like, then we went for a nice fall drive. The scenery was so beautiful! In between everything, we played some video games and watched some movies. I wanted to re-watch the new IT, but I was unable to find it online (I forgot to bring my DVD copy), so we watched a random Netflix movie instead.

After that, we went to his mum's for Thanksgiving dinner. I brought my own vegetarian turkey alternative and vegetarian gravy (thanks Gardein!). For dessert, we had butterscotch pie. The food was all amazing! It was nice to spend more time with his family. On Monday, he came to my house for my family's Thanksgiving dinner. I once again had my vegetarian alternatives. For dessert, we had apple pie with vanilla ice cream and pumpkin pie with whipped cream. We all could barely move afterwards, haha. That is how you know it was a successful Thanksgiving!

Also here is a cute recent selfie that I took. I'm wearing my bat ring, which I forgot I had! I used to wear it all the time.

I was very upset at first, but now I'm just disappointed. It never feels good to lose your job, even when you're told in a nice way. I've been doing lots of self care since then. I think its a very important that I take care of myself right now. Once I feel better, I plan to start applying for jobs again. Hopefully in a week or two. Wish me luck!

For self care, I've done the following:

• I got a new cute haircut, then looked around the mall and bought myself mint tea at Starbucks.
• I got three new boxes of tea. Do I have a tea problem? Probably.
• Watched the premiere American Horror Story: Apocalypse with some treats.
• Binge watched Season 13 of Supernatural. I'm halfway through now!
• Bought myself three new things online; Supernatural Season 13 on DVD, a new hair straightener (my old one broke) and Lost Encyclopedia (I found a really cheap used copy in good condition).
• My boyfriend and I celebrated our anniversary at an Inn out of town, which is made from old train carts and a train station. So cool! The inside of our room was absolutely beautiful! We had dinner at a nice restaurant (& got turtle cheesecake for dessert), got ice cream, exchanged gifts, did some window shopping, drove around and more! He gave me a beautiful tree necklace! For souvenirs, I got two buttons with Dumbledore quotes. My boyfriend also gave me a Slytherin pin that he got for free recently.

I also bought a ton of Christmas gifts lately! I've got almost everyone done, except for my boyfriend, my dad's girlfriend, my boyfriend's parents and my best friend's mom and fiance. I've decided to make my boyfriend something, which will cost around $35. He will absolutely love it! For my dad's girlfriend, I have no idea what I'm getting her yet. My boyfriend's parents will be getting a tin of my homemade shortbread cookies and my best friend's mom and fiance will each be getting a $15 Tim Hortons gift card. So... you may be wondering why I'm Christmas shopping in September... honestly, I just hate the mall in November/December. Its crazy busy! Also, the mail gets backed up around that time too. I figured its best to get it out of the way now and I won't have to worry in December!

My best friend: A wine glass that says 'drink up witches' for her birthday (December 6th) and a Jeffree Star makeup bag (for Christmas).
My boyfriend: Nintendo power #37. He told me recently about how he was been searching for it to add to his collection, so I bought it! He will be getting it for his birthday (January 7th). For Christmas, he is getting the homemade item that I mentioned before.
Marta: A shirt that says 'All I care about is my pekingese and like maybe 3 people'. She seen it on Facebook recently and got a good laugh from it, because she felt it was very fitting for her!
My best friend's son: The first 4 Magic Treehouse books for his birthday (November 28th) and two science kits for Christmas.
My best friend's daughter: A sparkly playdough set and a plush doll.
My dad: A book of H.P. Lovecraft stories.
