I've discovered my dream movie!

♪♫ Ghost of Love - David Lynch

School is over until the new year! And Sunday is the last day for Brownies until the new year! Its great to pretty much be on break now. I was so busy before. Now I can relax and enjoy the rest of the month, starting with my birthday is on the 17th! I've got the day all planned: I'm getting up early to all dressed up, meeting my dad in the early afternoon and going to see Krampus, going home and having dinner with my family (we're ordering out), then opening my presents. I'm leaving for Cape Breton on the 22nd to spend Christmas with my dad's family! It'll be my first time spending Christmas with them, and my dad says they go all out! I'm quite excited! Then I'll be back home for New Year's, and I'm spending that at home with family, Chinese food, and movies!

I got all the Christmas cards and the two packages sent out! I sent the large package Xpresspost yesterday and it arrived earlier today to Kara's door. She messaged me and let me know that she loved her gifts! BJ didn't receive his till a bit later because he was at school, but he messaged me and told me he loves his Yoda bobble head! I'm not sure if Kara gave Bentley his birthday presents yet, but I'm sure he loved them too! It feels so good to make people happy. Especially the people you love. I can't wait to feel more of that feeling on Christmas day!

On an unrelated topic; last night I felt like watching a David Lynch movie, so I popped in Lynch (One). That got me thinking though... has David Lynch ever acted besides in Twin Peaks? So I googled it, and sure enough, he was in a little indie movie in the late '80s with Isabella Rossellini called Zelly & Me. I read the basic summary, then watched a clip on YouTube. And y'know what? I absolutely must see that movie now. The only reviews I could find of the movie were good. And the plot sounds lovely. But the most exciting thing? David Lynch stars as the romantic lead. I do not think my ovaries will be able to handle it.

Well, after finding out that the movie exists, I went on a mission to find it on DVD or to download. But I literally could not find it anywhere. I found some sites that were streaming it, but they wanted me to register and give my credit card information, and that is really sketchy. So I passed. The only thing I could find was a few VHS copies, and I did not have a VCR (I foolishly gave mine away before moving last summer). I felt so frustrated. Especially after searching for used VCRs on EBay and discovering that they're like $75+. No way was I gonna pay around $100 just to watch one movie!

So, today I decided to go to a thrift shop just to see if they had any VCRs and see how expensive they were (so I could save up). Well... I was shocked! They had two, both in great condition. And both were $5! What a deal! I ended up buying the one that had a remote, and I tested everything out before leaving the store. I immediately set it up (& disinfected it really well) when I got home, and tried out a VHS copy of Night of the Living Dead I had collecting dust in the basement. Turns out that I was missing one cord, so I borrowed the one my cousin has for her DVD player just to see if it worked, and it did! No issues at all. And I've found the cord I need on EBay for $6 + free shipping. So I payed a little less than $15 all together for a VCR. So happy!

I currently don't have the money to purchase the VHS copy of Zelly & Me. Its around $33 including shipping. I'm gonna purchase it after Christmas when I have a bit more money. I'm quite sure that the copy I have my eye on is not going to be purchased before then. Its a pretty unknown/rare movie. Anyways, I can't wait for it to be all mine! I'm gonna plan a day around watching it, and possibly having some treats too! Also, here is what the VHS cover looks like...

I'm sure it seems crazy that I'm going through all that trouble to watch a movie I've never seen... but I'm a cinephile. Hunting down films and paying the price (sometimes quite high) is what I love to do. I'm a nerd, I know. Everyone has a hobby though, and this one is mine! Plus now that I have a VCR, I can start collecting rare VHS tapes! A whole new world has just opened up for me!

  1. I have until next week and then winter break for me! I'm scared that I won't pass math, but I'm doing my best. I'm doing my best despite the accident. I'm trying my hardest.

That's fine. Movies are a great medium that can help in so many ways and can enchant. Good luck on your new goals! ^^
