1. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by J.K. Rowling. I first read this in grade three, which was less than a year before the first Harry Potter film came out. I had an obsession with witches and fantasy stories as a child, so my grandmother recommended Harry Potter to me. At first, I had no interest in it, then I decided to give it a shot and I fell in love!
2. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling. I read this a few months before the second Harry Potter film came out. Its my favorite Harry Potter book. I remember reading it in class and my teacher was trying to get my attention by calling my name, but I was so lost in the world of the book that I didn't even notice.
3. Striped Ice Cream by Joan M. Lexau. I read this when I was around seven years old. I remember just falling in love with the characters and the story. I related so much to the main character!
4. Hills End by Ivan Southall. In grade seven, when I was thirteen, our teacher read us this book in class. I remember being so into the story, that I made sure not to miss a single day of school until the book was completed!
5. The Giver by Lois Lowry. I read this in grade eight for English class. We were supposed to read a certain amount each day/week, but I ended up reading the entire book in just a few days. It was so good! I remember reading the ending and just being in awe of how beautiful it was.
6. The Silver Sword by Ian Serraillier. This is another book that was read to my class in grade seven. I remember being really attached to the characters and felt on the edge of my seat as the story went on!
7. Magic Treehouse #17: Tonight on the Titanic by Mary Pope Osborne. I had seen the movie Titanic as a child (probably shouldn't have - but oh well), so I knew what happened to the ship. So when I read this book, I was rooting for the characters to get out alive. It was a wild ride!
8. Titanic Crossing by Barbara Williams. Another titanic themed book. I was also very attached to this one. I remember that I adored the main character, a young boy, and I hated his little sister who was a total brat. She is one of the characters I hate the most from stories I've read.
9. The Two Princesses of Bamarre by Gail Carson Levine. Another story with a little sister that I didn't like. She was whiny and annoying. However, I loved the main character. She was great!
10. Baby by Patricia MacLachlan. This was another book read to my class in grade seven (what a great year!). It was such a beautiful and heartwarming story!
11. Goosebumps: The Ghost Next Door by R.L. Stine. I was obsessed with Goosebumps books, but this was my favorite by far. I read the entire book in one afternoon. I remember being completely shocked by the twist!
12. Babysitter's Little Sister #1: Karen's Witch by Ann M. Martin. I remember being scared by this book, but I loved it. I read it at night when I was around seven years old and when I heard any noise at all, I got freaked out. I loved the other books in this series too!
13. Three Little Witches by Debra Hess. I remember that I was really sick in bed one day and I decided to read this book. I was glued to it and read the entire thing that day. I fantasized about how cool it would be if I had a friend that was a witch or if I was the witch!
14. The Wicked, Wicked Ladies in the Haunted House by Mary Chase. My teacher read this to our class in grade four. She told us how it was one of her favorite books as a child and she hoped we would like it. I definitely did! It was creepy and mesmerizing.
15. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis. I read this in grade seven, a few months before the movie came out. Our teacher planned to take our class to see it in the theatre, so I wanted to read the book beforehand. It was an awesome adventure!
I read a ton of other books as a child. I didn't have a TV or video games, so books were my main source of entertainment. I read at least a few books a week, sometimes more. My favorite books were fantasy, adventure and horror themed. That definitely hasn't changed any! What are your favorite books from childhood?

I was a bit older when the Harry Potter books came out. I was actually just finishing grade 11 lol when the first book came out but I still loved them. I remember reading them to my younger brother. My favorite from when I was a kid was the babysitters club, the saddle club books and the Booky Trilogy and Margaret books by Bernice Thurman Hunter.
